HVAC Load Calculations and Energy Code Compliance in Louisiana
Louisiana-licensed PE
Stamped cooling and heating load calculations and energy code compliance for industrial, commercial and multi-family projects in Louisiana.
Louisiana's heat and humidity make the moisture in the outdoor air as large a part of the load as the temperature, and its codes are in the middle of a change to the 2024 editions. Both shape our work on a Louisiana project.
The same services in every state
Adicot provides the same engineering services in every state it is licensed in, for industrial, commercial and multi-family buildings of any size. What changes from state to state is the code the work is held to.
- Cooling Load/Heat Load Calculations: room-by-room loads worked with ASHRAE methods, with ventilation rates to the adopted code
- Energy Code Compliance: the building modeled and compliance demonstrated on performance where the code allows it, in the format the plan reviewer expects

We work on industrial buildings, commercial buildings from offices and retail to restaurants and clinics, and multi-family buildings.
The codes in force in Louisiana
Louisiana adopts one statewide code, the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code. As of October 2026:
- Energy: commercial buildings must meet ASHRAE 90.1-2019, in effect since July 1, 2023. Multi-family buildings of three stories or fewer follow the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code instead. Compliance is documented with COMcheck and submitted to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
- Mechanical: the 2021 International Mechanical Code with Louisiana amendments, in effect since January 1, 2023.
- Building: the 2021 International Building Code with Louisiana amendments, in effect since January 1, 2023.
- Next edition: adoption of the 2024 International Codes is in rulemaking; the notice of intent was published in the Louisiana Register in August 2026. We confirm the edition in force for each permit application.
What is particular to Louisiana
Industrial buildings and the energy code. The state's commercial energy code excludes buildings used mainly for manufacturing or industrial processing. Whether a building qualifies is confirmed with the State Fire Marshal before any compliance work starts; the load calculations and ventilation are needed either way.
Humidity. Most of Louisiana is climate zone 2A, and the northern parishes, including Caddo, Bossier, Ouachita and Lincoln, are zone 3A. Both are hot and humid, so we work the latent load and the ventilation air explicitly, room by room.
Wind on the coast. Coastal parishes have high design wind speeds, which govern how rooftop and ground-mounted equipment is anchored. Our free Mechanical Equipment Wind Pressure Calculator gives the design pressures.
