HVAC Load Calculations and Energy Code Compliance in Wyoming

Wyoming-licensed PE

Stamped cooling and heating load calculations and energy code compliance for industrial, commercial and multi-family projects in Wyoming.

Wyoming has no statewide energy code, a current statewide mechanical code, and buildings at elevations where the air itself is thinner. All three shape our work on a Wyoming project.

The same services in every state

Adicot provides the same engineering services in every state it is licensed in, for industrial, commercial and multi-family buildings of any size. What changes from state to state is the code the work is held to.

Both are sealed by a professional engineer licensed in the state. Get a Quote to see the fee.

We work on industrial buildings, commercial buildings from offices and retail to restaurants and clinics, and multi-family buildings.

The codes in force in Wyoming

As of October 2026:

  • Energy: no statewide energy code. Each city or county decides whether to adopt one, and which edition.
  • Mechanical: the 2024 International Mechanical Code, adopted on June 28, 2024 with the 2024 International Building Code.
  • Who reviews: the Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety reviews plans for the building types state law assigns to it, including government buildings, schools, and buildings over 5,000 square feet open to the public. Local jurisdictions with their own enforcement review the rest.

What is particular to Wyoming

Local energy codes. Cheyenne enforces the 2024 building codes with the 2018 IECC. Other cities have adopted other editions, and some none, so the energy code is confirmed with the local building department on every project.

Altitude. Cheyenne sits at about 6,000 feet, where the air is roughly 80% as dense as at sea level. Each cubic foot of air carries less heat, and fans and burners deliver less than their sea-level ratings, so the loads and the equipment are both worked at the site's elevation.

Climate. Most of Wyoming is climate zone 6B, cold and dry. Laramie, Goshen and Platte counties are 5B, and Lincoln, Sublette and Teton counties are zone 7. Heating usually sizes the equipment, and the dry air makes the cooling load almost entirely sensible.
