HVAC Load and Energy Code Calculations for Architects

For architects

Stamped load calculations and energy code calculations for your commercial, industrial and multi-family projects, worked from your drawings to the code the jurisdiction has adopted.

The envelope, the glazing and the occupancy are your decisions, and they are most of what the mechanical calculations rest on. We take them off your drawings, work the cooling and heating loads and the energy code calculations, and return a stamped package your plan reviewer can act on.

What you get

  • Room-by-room cooling and heating loads by ASHRAE methods
  • Ventilation rates to the mechanical code the jurisdiction has adopted
  • Energy code compliance, demonstrated on performance where the code allows it
  • A written list of what the design must hold to in order to stay compliant
  • A stamped, plan-review-ready document

Why bring us in early

Keep the design you drew. Where the code permits performance modeling, we look for a route to compliance that lets the design keep what matters to it: a glazing ratio, an envelope the architecture will not give up. That is easier to find before the envelope is locked than after plan review comments come back.

Nothing drifts in value engineering. The written list of assumptions shows which envelope and system choices the compliance depends on, so you can check a late substitution against it before it is made.

Loads and energy from the same inputs. Run together, the load calculations and the energy code calculations share one set of envelope and system inputs. That is cheaper, and it removes a class of discrepancy plan reviewers look for.

What to send

The architectural drawings, the project type, the square footage and the turnaround you need. Please include the wall sections and the window schedule. If something is missing, we send a list of what is still needed; see an example of a clear response.

Turnaround and fees

Most projects are returned within 5 to 10 business days of scope confirmation, with rush turnarounds when the schedule requires one. Enter the project type and square footage in the online quote tool and, for most projects, a preliminary fee appears on screen; it is confirmed in writing once we review the scope.

Where we work

Adicot is licensed in eleven states; the codes each has adopted are on our state pages. Our principal is an NCEES Model Law Engineer, a designation that supports licensure applications in other U.S. jurisdictions, so ask us if your project is somewhere else.
